Hello Friends…
This has been the season to ride a bike. 2 of our kids just sent us Thank yous for their new bikes.
Jesse wrote; “Thank you very much for the bicycle. My friends used to ask me if I want to go bike riding and I said no because I don’t have a bike. But now I say yes, because I have one, so thank you.” Sincerely, Jesse
Abby wrote: “Thank you so much! I love my bike. Now I can go on family rides in the neighborhood and to the ice cream shop. My new bike makes me so happy and I’m lucky to have it! The pictures are from me at bike safety town. Love, Abby
This week we funded another new adapted bike for Savannah.
The following is an excerpt from the letter from Savannah’s therapist that recommended the bike for Savannah….
“Beep. beep! Here I come!” These were the joyful words coming from the mouth the little blond dynamo as she circled around and around on a flashy pink bike! “I love it,” she chanted. “Now I can go fast just like everyone else in my family!” Mom just stood there unable to hold back the tears of joy! It has been a rough few years…with lots of pain and disappointment for my daughter! This day will be a memory we both will cherish forever! I love when she gets to be a regular kid.”
On a warm July day, almost 2 years ago, Savannah was an energetic 2 1/2 year old playing in her backyard when a horrific accident occurred. Savannah slipped under a moving tractor mower and was catastrophically injured, leaving her a double amputee. Doctors could only save 2/3 of her left arm and about 1/4 of her left leg. “She is an amazing kid. Her zest for life is contagious! commented several of the therapists who helped with her biking experience.
Savannah is a bright and eager learner with boundless energy and an inquisitive nature. She endures countless hours of therapy and doctor visits to improve the use of her limbs and make her more functionally independent in her everyday tasks. Savannah takes most of the pain and struggles in stride and looks forward to school and play. She sings, dances and celebrates being 4.
We are honored to purchase bikes for these strong and determined kids. Just to give you an idea, these special bikes run from 2,000 to 4,000 dollars. Certainly not in the family budget.
Thank you again for your continuous support.
Remember if you are in the downtown neighborhood this Thursday night, we are having the Bull and Bear Happy Hour, 20 bucks….beer and wine 5:30-7:30. Thanks to our friends at BCD Meetings and Incentives.
We are still looking for used vans to adapt for a lift. If anyone has a “connection” let us know. Working out the details with an installer of lifts.
God Bless
Mary Ellen
