Wow, what a week! Thank you so much for all the support you have given Thumbuddy Special to make these special moments come forth!
Last Saturday, the 3rd, the train arrived at Downers Grove at about 1:30 destined for the North Pole. Santa, (John) was almost late due to a late arriving sleigh…(me) and some gum stuck in his beard (him). But, as usual, it all worked out. Thumbuddy Special teamed up with West Suburban Special Recreation for this great experience. We sponsor the needy families and supply all the toys that Santa gives out. It is a fabulous and simple start to a very busy season…Oh the joy!
Next up, the collection of the toys for the needy families. Thanks to our friends at The Butterfield Men’s clan for giving year in and year out. Our local friends who are dropping off throughout the week and all the great folks at Scheck and Siress who donated another ton of toys! We also had additional help from The Comprehensive Group, who donated toys and their time to help wrap at the “Wrapping Party” on this past Sunday. Our friends at BCD Meetings and Incentives adopted an additional 10 families and the sleigh is picking those toys up tomorrow!
It all came together for a fabulous day on Sunday. 12 Social Workers from around the west side came out to Annette’s house. The wrappers (elves) were ready and all the families were taken care of in a very generous fashion. The toys that are left over are all going to the children in the Early Childhood Programs in Berwyn and Forest Park on next Tuesday…our favorite Santa, John is back on duty. Over 300 children will receive a toy on this day!
The “Spirit of Christmas” is all in the giving of our time and resources. Thank you for sharing yours with the Children of Thumbuddy Special.
God’s Blessings to you and yours this Christmas Season…
