Friends;
Just sending a reminder that next Saturday, March 2nd is the “Winter is Almost Over” Party at Carlucci Restaurant in Downers Grove. It is a great night out with plenty of food, drinks and “late night dancing” til 9:00! (Perfect timing, home in bed by 10:30…so old).
Let me know if you are coming, we need to give an estimate to Carlucci by Thursday, February 28th .
We recently received a thank you note from a very inspirational boy, Ramiro. He received an iPad with gift cards to help the family get through this difficult time.
Here is his story:
Ramiro is a 9 year old boy who just received a heart transplant on November 1st. Four weeks prior, Ramiro went to the doctor because he wasn’t feeling well. The doctor decided Ramiro needed a chest x-ray and found his heart was only functioning about 30%. He ended up at Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital. Ramiro was put into a self-induce coma and given medications to hopefully improve his heart. Unfortunately, the medications did not work. On October 31st, he was placed on the heart transplant list and within 24 hours his parents received a call that there was a heart available. Since Ramiro was admitted to the hospital, both of his parents have been by his side. They have used all their sick and vacation time. It is going to be a long recovery for Ramiro. The family does not have a computer or printer at home. Ramiro’s mother has always gone to the library to use their computers.
Dear Thumbuddy Special;
Thank you so much for the generous gift. Ramiro was so touched to receive the iPad and gift cards! The iPad has been a great supplement to schoolwork! He found some great multiplication and geography apps to help learn states and capitals! It has also been so nice for him to have a way to keep in touch with family while we are at the doctor’s and home. His immune system is still suppressed so he has very limited contact with others.
If there is anything I can do to help your organization please ask!
Thank you!!
Renee and Ramiro
Thank you for helping us make these simple wishes come true. We are truly Blessed!
God Bless
Mary Ellen
