It is the single most important event of Thumbuddy Special, our Mom’s Day Out was this past Sunday. 15 woman, all strangers at the beginning of the day and they leave with a renewed “sisterhood” of understanding. It is so powerful, that I truly can’t put it into words. If we were to have a camera in the room when the stories of their joys and sorrows are told, it would be too intrusive, an invasion of their private lives. The emotions are raw and honest and full of gratitude for the beautiful children that God has given them to love and cherish. I was privileged to be there and so very thankful to all the moms who took the chance on Thumbuddy Special and blessed us with their presence. It is our honor to give this day to you, our Special Caregivers of our Angels on Earth!

This day has been incredible! So many times while on this journey with our special needs children we feel isolated and alone. Today, I felt surrounded by love and acceptance. I didn’t need to explain my life and challenges because each mom already knew. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy this unique sisterhood and have a special day just for us. I will never forget this day. It has refueled me to continue to advocate for my daughter and be the best I can be. “The Spa Day for moms has been such an awesome and blessed experience. The opportunity to meet and connect with other mothers of children with special needs was an opportunity I didn’t even know I needed. The laughs, the tears, the shared understanding and compassion experienced today has offered a certain healing and refreshing to my soul. The kindness and service of the volunteers who gave us makeovers, manicures and pedicures and the Italian dinner touched me and made me feel that people really do care about me and my daughter’s experience. I am no longer isolated, but connected with people who care and understand my plight. Forever grateful!”

Thank you to all who donated their time, resources and prayers to make this amazing day possible! From the girls at Salon Divino, Lisa, Cheryl, Dez, and Candy who glamorized our friends with make-up and hair styles, and our new friends at Gold Star Nails who worked their magic on the toes and hands, we are grateful to you, for making our Moms feel like a Beauty Queen. To all the friends who support Thumbuddy Special; our moms were then whisked off to shop to buy something nice for themselves…not their kids! We topped it off with a beautiful dinner at our favorite restaurant; Carlucci in Downers Grove; where the atmosphere and service were perfect! Oh, and one more thing; all the moms were given a “pamper me basket”; where items were donated by friends and teachers from several schools: St John of the Cross, and the schools in Berwyn North, Berwyn South, Cicero, and Forest Park. We are proud of our mission to take care of the caregiver!
